The Supreme Court's decisions in Citizens United v. FEC, and Buckley v. Valeo have allowed corporations, unions, and ultra-wealthy individuals to spend unlimited amounts of money to influence elections.
Big money has undermined the integrity of our political system and given special interests undue influence over our elected officials.
A constitutional amendment is necessary in order to overturn Citizens United and allow Congress and state legislatures to enact necessary campaign finance reforms.
Therefore...
I support the Restore Democracy Amendment to overturn Citizens United and pave the way for additional campaign finance reforms.
Passing the Restore Democracy Amendment will:
· Prevent corporations and unions from spending unlimited amounts of money to influence elections.
· Allow Congress and the States to enact additional reforms as necessary, such as publicly financed elections or other limits on campaign spending.
· Enhance the voices of individuals within the political process.
