The collection of refuse in the Rooihuiskraal and The Reeds, Centurion, have become a big problem. It is weekly that residents struggle where refuse is not collected or takes up to 5 or 6 days for collection to take place after various and daily escalation to the relevant ward counsellors. Firstly, it is a service that is paid for by the residents that is not taking place as stipulated. Secondly, it poses a safety risk for residents. One of the signs criminals look for to determine whether residents are home or away, to plan house break-ins, is bins that stand outside the property and not being taken back in after the end of refuse collection day. As they see the bins outside as a sign that nobody is home, they break-in and innocent citizens get hurt in the process.

We, the undersigned of this petition, call on the City of Tshwane local government to resolve the issue with relation to timeous collection of refuse as per the schedule days in the Rooihuiskraal / The Reeds, Centurion, area. The current contractors take up to 5 or 6 days to collect refuse, and in some areas refuse are some weeks not collected at all. It is a basic municipal service that all residents are paying for and we expect services to be delivered on time, as stipulated and arranged with residents.
