The Objective: To oblige Google to stop Negative SEO practices and sanction website owners for such actions.
The Problem: Over the course of several algorithm updates, Google has not stopped from punishing website owners from over saturating content with keywords and producing thousands of spammy links, for the sole purpose of manipulating the search engine rankings. Numerous websites have either noted a drastic drop in their ranks or have totally lost their website. While this may be one of the greatest things Google has done for the benefit of its end user, their algorithm leaves little protection for honest and ethical webmasters. Competitors of good-ranking websites can easily take advantage of this Google feature by producing massive, spammy backlinks, which will hurt a website’s ranking overnight.
The Answer: There are two things that Google should have deemed by now. First, these backlinks are beyond the webmaster’s control and second, Google’s set of algorithms are possibly exploitable by SEO experts in the field, especially those who practice black hat, or the unscrupulous method of search engine optimization. Google should notice the sudden influx of artificial links and find the root source, rather than punish a website owner outright without proper investigation.
SERPStream, a dedicated keyword rank tracker, believes that Google has been trying to rank websites reasonably, but still could enhance their algorithms to provide better protection for honest webmasters and to ensure that black hat web owners will be held liable.
