On the evening of Tuesday 28th October 2008, at the Co-operative Insurance Cup tie between Rangers and Hamilton Academicals at Ibrox Stadium, the following message was displayed on the screens within the ground prior to the match commencing:

"The club, after consultation with Strathclyde Police, have to advise supporters that the singing of 'The Famine Song' may result in those responsible being arrested".

'The Famine Chant'

Why don't you go home?
Why don't you go home?
The famine is over,
Why don't you go home?

It has been explained to Strathclyde Police and Scottish MSP's on many occasions that this chant is not sectarian or racist. Strathclyde Police have been asked at the highest level as to what offence would an individual be committing if voicing this protest and what charge would be brought against any individual. To date Strathclyde Police have been unable to answer both these questions.

Rangers fans use this chant as a protest against some of the more undesirable elements found in Scottish society today. It is purely a statement against Scottish people who claim to be Irish and make public knowledge their desire to return to their homeland, Ireland. It is a protest against those who:

- hold republican marches on our streets singing their songs in support of the IRA, a terrorist organisation that was responsible for the deaths of thousands of British men, women and children, an organisation that has been outlawed in this country.

- despite their hatred of our country, are quite happy to take advantage of our NHS, our Benefits system, and travel on holiday under a British passport.

Is it racist to ask someone (who states they don't want to be here) if they would like to go home because the reason that they claim brought them here in the first place is no longer relevant? No, it is not racist; it is making a pro British statement (which we as British citizens have a right to do). It is called patriotism, and being patriotic is not a crime! If they hate our country so much then why are they still here? There are many genuine Irish people who have fully integrated themselves into British society and adopted the British way of life; these people are more than welcome to stay.

If making a pro British statement is to be considered sectarian & racist then surely logic dictates that all statements of an anti British nature shall also be considered sectarian and racist? Therefore, ask yourself the following......

Are Strathclyde Police advising Celtic Football Club to display threatening messages on the media screens at Celtic Park informing fans that they may be arrested for singing songs supporting the IRA?

Are Strathclyde Police advising the SFA to display threatening messages on the media screens at Hampden informing fans that they may be arrested for singing 'Flower of Scotland' or for booing our national anthem 'God Save the Queen'?

Until there is parity being displayed against all Scottish football clubs and supporters, where all clubs and supporters are being treated equally and it is not a case of solely attacking Rangers, their supporters, and anyone of a pro British stance, we (the undersigned) consider the threatening actions of Strathclyde Police to be discriminatory and politically intolerant against those adopting a pro British stance.

This is a direct violation of an individual's rights under the Human Rights Act 1998:

Article 10 - Right to Freedom of Expression

Article 14 - Discrimination

We (the undersigned), are calling on the Scottish Parliament to intervene and request a formal, written, and publicly displayed apology from Strathclyde Police to all individuals they have discriminated against by taking threatening and unlawful action. Strathclyde Police issued their threat via a public medium and likewise, they should apologise through a public medium.
