"Detentions can take place during school hours, at lunchtime, after school or at weekends. If your child fails to attend without a reasonable excuse, the school may give them a more severe punishment.

You are entitled to 24 hours’ written notice of a detention that takes place outside normal school hours so you can make arrangements for transport or childcare. The notice should tell you why the detention was given and how long your child will have to stay at school."

This needs to be put back in place as parents have a right to know where their child is after school finishes.

A child is at risk if he/she can not get home.

A child is at risk if the child is punished for minor actions constantly without the parents knowledge.

Teachers could be picking on children without parents knowing why they are being held back be whom and why.

Children can become vulnerable learners if parents are not informed of what's happening in school.

Schools have the ability to text and email parents/carers of their child's whereabouts.

A child has a right to leave school the same day as the punishment issued and fulfil the punishment at another point in time that does not disrupt family life.

We, the undersigned Request the Education 2011, part 2, "Repeal of requirement to give notice of detention to parent: England" to be abolished.

To have the law put back to give parents notice of 24 hours, by sending a text and/or email stating their child has detention and with reason for the punishment.
