Kaupakalua Roping Club was started over 40 years ago in Jimmy Souza’s backyard. There were so many people coming by to use the arena Jimmy, Clarence DeCoite, Herbert Santos, Junior Burns and Bobby Carvalho decided to form a club. After petitioning the county for land on Ulumalu Rd. in Kaupakalua, the Kaupakalua Roping Club was created for friends and family to participate in rodeo events.
Jimmy remained arena director for over 30 years until he passed away in 2006.
In honor of my dad, Jimmy Souza, I ask for your support to rename the Ulumalu Arena aka Kaupakalua Arena the JIMMY SOUZA MEMORIAL ARENA.
