There is growing evidence that the Buckingham Road "traffic calming chicane" in Bicester, Oxfordshire is causing more problems than it solves.
It has caused at least three injury accidents since 2006 and numerous non injury accidents. It is a consistent cause of frustration to all drivers and motorcyclists that regularly use the Buckingham Road.
The chicane causes long traffic delays, and there is video evidence on You Tube, (got to www.youtube.com and serch for "Near Miss Idiot") which show an example of how dangerous this chicane can be.
It encourages drivers to speed up on the 30mph road towards the chicane so they can pass to avoid getting delayed in the bottleneck of the chicane. There is already ample traffic calming measure in the Buckingham Road, such as controlled pedestrian crossings, safety camera, roundabouts so having this chicane there is superfluous.
We, the undersigned, call on Oxfordshire County Council to remove the Buckingham Road, Bicester "Traffic Calming Chicane" as a matter of urgency.
