Target:
Prairie Edge in Rapid City South Dakota
Region:
United States of America

In the middle of downtown Rapid City South Dakota, in front of the store "Prairie Edge Gallery" that capitalizes on Native American Artwork, there is a statue of a native american man with his head bowed in defeat and hands tied behind his back with leather tongs.

This is a direct insult to the Native american community, and shows a Native man in bondage.

We are associated with and part of the Society for the Advancement of Native interest(SANI-T) have been campaigning against this statue since October of 2006 and we are asking "what message is this giving to our youth and future generations"?

We, the Society for the Advancement of Native Interests and the community of Rapid City and surrounding areas are asking that the statue of the Defeated Warrior on the corner of 6th and Main, directly in front of Prairie Edge Gallery, be immediately removed or replaced by something that honors Native American people, rather than depicting them as a people who are in bondage and defeated.

Please honor this request.
