Australia is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. We have a generous welfare system and almost "full" employment.
There is no economic reason for beggars to "beg" on Sydney's streets. These individuals are either professional criminals or mentally ill. If they are the former they should be prosecuted. If the latter, they should be hospitalized.
We, the undersigned, ask the Sydney City Council to remove beggars from our Sydney CBD streets.
This would involve employing professional social workers to identify and remove these people to appropriate services.
The clutter these criminals or mentally ill persons cause is both tragic as it is avoidable.
