School names are no place to celebrate or honor those who rebelled for the right to own human beings as slaves. Jacksonville, Florida (Duval county) has 5 schools named after confederates.
Robert E. Lee High School,
J.E.B Stuart Middle School
Stonewall Jackson Elementary School,
Joseph Finegan Elementary School
Jefferson Davis Middle School
The school board has set forward the following criteria that MUST be met to change the names of of these schools. We need EITHER 75% of community, Alumni or students to sign this petition to push this action forward. WE CAN DO THIS! PLEASE FILL IN ALL OF THE BOXES AND LET'S DO WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE A LONG TIME AGO!
Enough is enough! Let's get to work to end overt, subtle and systemic racism in our public schools. Our children deserve better! It won't change everything, but it is a step in the right direction. THE NEXT SCHOOL BOARD MEETING IS ON AUGUST 3RD!
