Accelerated does not improve reading comprehension. In fact, kids learn to despise reading because they are inundated with taking tests on books they read.
Let kids choose their own reading and show they understand using more creative methods. Accelerated Reader only tests basic comprehension.
I want our kids to think about what they read and apply, analyze and evaluate to show they understand what has been read.
We, the parents and friends of Central Cass students, call on the teachers and administration to cease the use of Accelerated Reader in our elementary, middle and high schools.
Instead, give the students time to read, access to quality books (print, digital, online, audio) and show enthusiasm for reading.
