The guard rails have always provided security to pedestrians as well as stopping cars from driving over the walkway to avoid the one way system. The guard rails alert pedestrians to the dangers of crossing the very busy West Cromwell Road.

The guard rails also protect children from the dangers of traffic by enabling them to wait behind them when wishing to cross the very busy West Cromwell Road.

The West Cromwell Road also gets extremely busy during football matches when the West Cromwell Road is inundated with traffic and hundreds of supporters walking along and across the road. Removing the guard rails encourages pedestrians to walk on the road and cross the road at any point, meaning this is an accident waiting to happen.

Nevern Road is a no-through road. The rails which have been removed are marked in red. Their removal has left open the opportunity for motorists to take a short cut across which the guard rails previously prevented. This is potentially fatal to pedestrians.

Recently the increase in motorists taking this “short cut” has increased during peak hours and late at night.

We the undersigned are writing to you to express our concerns about the dangers to pedestrians with removal of the guard rails on West Cromwell Road SW5.
