It is the experience of the residents on Whittier Avenue in Toms River, New Jersey that the current speed limit of 35mph is far too high for a wholly residential street. This, in fact, encourages motorists to speed through our neighborhood at rates of 40-45mph, routinely.

These rapid speeds are a real danger to the adults and children who reside on our street.

It is our opinion that the legal speed limit should be reduced to a maximum of 25mph in order to help safeguard our community.

We, the homeowners on Whittier Avenue in Toms River, New Jersey, petition the city to reduce the speed limit in our subdivision from 35 to at least 25 mph.

Drivers typically speed through this wholly residential street. This is a safety hazard to all residents, especially children of all ages who are trying to play as well as catch the bus for school.

This reduction in the speed limit to 25 mph will provide the safety for our children and citizens who occupy residency on this street.
