It is completely unnecessary to have 6 weeks holidays in the summer and it is most inconvenient for a clear majority of parents (lets prove that now). If the holidays were in fact 4 weeks in the summer and two weeks in the February and October half term, it would make life so much easier for schools in terms of ATTENDANCE at school and for parents. Parents would find holiday cover much easier as well as the ability to book family holidays abroad. One week is simply not enough to go anywhere without it impacting on schooling. Children get great education value out of travelling abroad; the process, passports, airports, foreign exchange rates, cultures and so much more. Schools clearly agree with this because why else would they offer their own school trips, for example Skiing?

Lets change the ridiculous structure that is the school holidays now. It is completely unnecessary to have 6 weeks holidays in the summer and it is most inconvenient for a clear majority of parents who have to work (lets prove that now).
If the holidays were in fact 4 weeks in the summer and two weeks in the February and October half term, it would make life so much easier for parents to cover and for booking holidays. Who wants to go abroad in August when its the height of the season in cost and too heat when the weather is at its best at home here in the UK?
If we had two weeks in February and two weeks in October half terms this would spread the opportunities for families to take their holidays, see their extended families and not miss school. This would help improve attendance at school which also has an impact on outcomes of Ofsted reports.
Schools in Isle of Wight propose to implement this in 2020 and there are talks of plans to change school holidays in Nottinghamshire. Brarnsley Council in South Yorkshire is the first to already make changes 2017-18.
