The Batavia City School District

United States of America

If you want to help prevent pollution
If you want to be able to recycle plastics at lunch
If you want to make the earth healthier
If you want to help our generation and future generations maintain a good biosphere
If you want to save animals all over the world
If you fell under any of these then you should keep reading and sign this petition. We are fighting to have recycling bins added into the cafeteria so it reduces the amount of garbage and waste that could further pollute and ruin the earth. We would help save so many animals that are being harmed at the moment by mistaking plastics for food or getting it wrapped around them. Over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 sea mammals are killed by pollution every year and we could reduce those numbers. Also, the Mississippi River carries 1.5 million metric tons of nitrogen pollution (nitrogen is in plastics) into the Gulf of Mexico every year which creates a “dead zone” the size of New Jersey. We may not live near the Mississippi River but think of what could be happening to bodies of water nearby and how we could change that with one little fix. We may be a small little community compared to the whole world but word travels and little things can help contribute to helping an overall topic. Just think we will get more done just by adding recycling bins in the cafeteria then if we just sat around and waited for the rest of America or the world to solve our pollution problems. We can take one step at a time to help this world and let this be our very first step to achieving that. Thank you.

We, the undersigned, call on the Batavia City School District to take action and improve our environment by getting recycling bins and promoting them in our school cafeteria to reduce our negative impact on the environment with pollution.
