Re-establish Pre-AP and AP Science, Social Studies, and all Arts at Bay Minette Middle School!

On Wednesday, July 19, 2017, it was released that Bay Minette Middle School had removed all art programs, advanced science, and advanced social studies for the upcoming year. This is simply not acceptable! Our children are legally entitled to a free and appropriate education that meets the needs of each individual child. Please sign this petition urging Baldwin County Public Schools to re-establish these courses!
While an outdated and inaccurate enrollment count was used to strip this school of three already existing teacher units, a stark increase of 31 in the student body has already occurred over summer with another month until the start of school. Please understand, despite the need for an additional class, the public school system has taken three!
Our science, social studies, and art courses slip behind an unchanged sport program! Despite our county is the fastest growing in Alabama, as well as in this region, Bay Minette is under served. Despite our rapidly expanding housing market, our booming beach tourism, and the additional 1 cent sales tax that WE voted into existence specifically for our schools, Bay Minette is under served.
No courses have been cut at any of the Daphne, Fairhope, or Spanish Fort schools. No teacher units have been stricken here, in fact the Baldwin County Public Schools has just approved a $60 million dollar building plan that includes two NEW schools, neither in Bay Minette. And yet, we loose art, advanced science, and advanced social studies.
This is obvious discriminatory spending! Prejudiced treatment due to the comparatively large number of low income and minority families in this district. A lack of funding to a rural and historically farming community, This must stop!
We must join together to ensure that OUR children, rather ALL children, receive the equal and opportune education provided in other districts! It is time for us to call upon assistance from our public school funds and county funds to re-establish these classes taken from our children!
Please, sign this petition urging that these classes be brought back immediately!
We, the undersigned, call on the Baldwin County Public Schools to return the three teacher units, art program, pre-advanced placement science course, and pre-advanced placement social studies course taken from Bay Minette Middle School.
