This petition is intended to demonstrate to the administration of Duke Law School that there is broad support among the student body for creating an endowed faculty chair position in Human Rights Law.

The undersigned students of Duke Law School write to express their support for creating an endowed faculty chair position in human rights law at Duke. We observe that, while Duke has embodied a commitment to international legal education, our full-time faculty has yet to include an expert in the field of international human rights.

We urge the administration of the law school to act promptly to correct this deficit in our legal education by creating a Raphael Lemkin Chair of International Human Rights Law at Duke.

This position will anchor our program in the tradition of human rights law that Dr. Lemkin inaugurated while teaching at Duke and will demonstrate the school's commitment to providing a complete international legal education for its students.
