This petition is to get the word 'hobbit' in the dictionary. It was started when the writer of the petition decided to look up hobbit in the dictionary. The word wasn't there. Then he decided to make a petition to get the word into a dictionary. If the word 'muggle' is going to be in the next edition of The Oxford English Dictionary, why shouldn't hobbit? The word hobbit is in at least four classic novels by J.R.R. Tolkien. The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Three of the four are now becoming classic movies. Hobbit is in over 1,350,000 websites. Over 100 million copies have been sold of The Fellowship of the Ring alone.
The undersigned request the American Heritage Publishing Co., Inc. to put the word 'hobbit' in the dictionary. The word is know to many people, moreso than countless words in the dictionary. The creatures from JRR's fantastical books should be forever inked in the dictionary.
