Generations have gone by since most of the playgrounds in Stocksbridge & Deepcar have seen a lick of paint, new equipment or the care and attention that they need. Many local parents travel to playgrounds in neighbouring Hillsborough or Oxspring rather than use the playgrounds within Stocksbridge & Deepcar.

Conservative Parliamentary spokesman Spencer Pitfield said “The playgrounds in Stocksbridge & Deepcar have been neglected for far too long and everyone should have access to facilities that are safe and well maintained.

I have spoken with many local parents, grandparents and carers during the past few months who echo this view and therefore I will be presenting a petition to the City Council, signed by local residents, calling on them to provide the much needed investment”.

Stocksbridge Town Councillor Russell Marsh-Smith added “The creation of the Community Assemblies in May of this year provides the City Council with a real opportunity to choose to make children’s playgrounds in Stocksbridge & The Upper Don a priority. Please sign our petition to show your support”.

We the undersigned, call for Sheffield City Council to urgently address the poor provision of children’s playground facilities in the Stocksbridge & Deepcar area.

Existing areas are, in the main, neglected and in an unacceptable condition with no evidence of any investment being provided by the City Council.

We support the urgent need to provide local children with better playground facilities.
