Adding "Sexual Orientation" and "Gender Identity" to the non-discrimination and equal employment guidelines for students and teachers in Brevard County.
10% of students identify as LGBT. Out of the 74,000 students in the Brevard County school district you are leaving 7,400 students exposed to harm. LGBT Students are 4-6 times more likely to commit suicide, and with decisions like this we are only increasing those numbers. Teachers can't speak openly about these struggles that the students are going through out of fear of being fired.
By adding these minorities to the protected classes who would be harmed?
We cannot let people's radical religious beliefs run our government run and funded school system, it violates our First Amendment.
It's time to take action and stand on the right side of history.
We, the undersigned, call on the Brevard County School Board to add "Sexual Orientation" and "Gender Identity" to the non-discrimination and equal employment guidelines in the Brevard County School District.
