Light Rail is an essential element in future transit, but we must ensure that it is implemented in a way that preserves the recreational and environmental resources of the Kenilworth Corridor.

The Kenilworth Trail is designated as a regional trail; used year-round by bikers for both commuting and recreation with over 2,000 users a day

Adjoining land is classified as a regional park and is used by visitors from all over the metro area and has been designated as an important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society

Cedar Lake Parkway and Kenilworth Channel along this corridor are historic sites and are eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places

Cedar Lake Parkway is an essential section of the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway

Cedar Lake Parkway and Kenilworth Channel are critical parts of the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes Regional Park. The Kenilworth Channel connects Cedar and Brownie lakes with Lake of the Isles and Lake Calhoun and is an integral part of the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes.

Preservation of these resources is essential.

We the undersigned call on the Metropolitan Council, Minneapolis City Leaders, Hennepin County Leaders, and Park Board Members to:

• Ensure that the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) adequately assesses the threats and identifies reasonable alternatives and mitigation measures

• Refrain from giving municipal consent until the FEIS has been approved

• Preserve the Kenilworth Channel and Minneapolis Grand Rounds, both of which are eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places

• Obtain a comprehensive evaluation of a tunnel option for the LRT under the Kenilworth corridor so as to protect recreational and environmental resources along the corridor.
