The Downtown The Dalles economy is struggling. Due to the slow growth of the local and national economy, the current economic downturn, and the effects of the traffic impacts due to the East Gateway Roundabout construction, many stores are having very difficult times right now, and multiple stores have closed their doors to business in the last six months.
This petition is a request to the City Council and Mayor of The Dalles to work with downtown businesses and the city planning department to postpone the Urban Renewal Project planned on Third Street for August 2010 to a new schedule planned beyond summer 2011 in order for businesses to recover from the effects of the current economic downturn and the significant effects of the current construction on the East Gateway Roundabout.
