UPDATE:

March 4, 2005

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to update you on the status of Russell Carroll's parole hearing—he was denied parole!

Many, many thanks to all of you who signed the petition, started one of your own, or wrote a letter to the parole board. It is because of your efforts and support that Russell Carroll remains in prison where he belongs.

He will be up for parole again in February 2007 and every two years after that, and I will be doing all that I can to make sure he is not let out.

Best,
Leann

Officer Sorrentino was shot and killed while chasing four suspects who had just robbed a club. He and his partner had split up to chase the suspects who had also split up. After his partner captured one of the suspects he heard shots fired and ran to the scene where he found Officer Sorrentino suffering gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds two weeks later. All suspects were eventually apprehended. The men were convicted of 106 counts of murder, robbery and weapons possession.

All but one have since died in prison. Russell Carroll is due for a parole hearing in February 2005, after serving the minimum part of his 25 to life sentence. My family, still grieving for the loss of my Uncle Bobby, does not want this man to go free.

On April 10, 1980, NYPD Officer Robert Sorrentino of the 101st Pct. was shot three times while chasing four robbery suspects in Far Rockaway, Queens. He later died from his wounds and the men were sentenced on 106 counts of murder, robbery and weapons possession.

All but one have since died in prison. Russell Carroll, is due up for a parole hearing in February 2005 after serving the minimum of his 25 years to life sentence. Please help my family and I keep this man in prison.

By affixing my signature to this letter, it is my request to the NYS Division of Parole to consider this a formal protest regarding any consideration of parole for this individual.

The Police Officer Robert Sorrentino petition to Victim Impact Unit, NYS Division of Parole was written by the Sorrentino family and is in the category Justice at GoPetition.
