West Philadelphia-born Patti LaBelle is one of the most successful and beloved entertainers of our time whose unstoppable success as an award winning singer, actress, author, and entrepreneur has made her this city's most renowned treasure. She has earned two Grammy Awards, three Emmy nominations, and is the only celebrity whose star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was paid for entirely by fans. Patti has also been inducted into various other Halls of Fame, including the Grammy Hall of Fame, the Apollo Hall of Fame, and the Songwriters' Hall of Fame. She is the recipient of 7 honorary college degrees including an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Philadelphia's prestigious Temple University. She continues to tour to sold-old concert halls across the country, and is also the award-winning author of five books, three of which were New York Times bestsellers. She is currently the host of Patti LaBelle's Place on the Cooking Channel, and the creator of Walmart's incredibly successful "Patti's Sweet Potato Pie". At 73 years of age she has remained a resident of Philadelphia for her entire life!

Distinguished Members of Council, we, the undersigned, ask that the street on which Patti La Belle lived as a child, Washington Avenue in West Philadelphia, be renamed in her honor as Patti LaBelle Way.
