My name is Dr. Nora Bugeja, and I am a 27-year-old medical doctor—the first transgender woman in Malta to graduate in Medicine and Surgery.
I was subjected to unlawful and unjust disciplinary proceedings that forced me into a painful decision: resigning from my position due to the immense stress and persecution I faced. During this period, my father was hospitalized in critical condition. Due to bureaucratic delays, I was unable to return to my workplace in time to see him. By the time I was granted permission, it was too late—his condition had worsened, and he could no longer recognize me due to his vascular dementia and declining health.
Even in the face of severe injustice and personal tragedy, I refused to back down. I fought through a system that tried to silence me, and I won. The Public Service Commission ruled the charges against me NULL AND VOID. Despite this, barriers remain, and I need every advantage I can get.
I am asking for your support. Not just for me, but for every transgender professional who faces discrimination and systemic injustice. Around the world, we see rising hostility toward trans people—in America, Russia, and beyond. Hatred does not stop at borders, and if we do not stand firm, even progressive and lawful countries like ours can be tainted by the same injustices.
By supporting my case, you are standing up for fairness, justice, and equal rights for all professionals, regardless of gender identity. Together, we can ensure that no one else has to endure what I have endured.
We, the undersigned members and allies of the Maltese transgender and LGBTQ+ community & medical professionals. Stand in full support of Dr. Nora Bugeja, a dedicated medical professional who has faced unjust barriers to normal work & requires reinstatement having been legally cleared of all disciplinary charges.
Dr. Nora Bugeja is a pioneer as Malta’s first transgender doctor, representing progress, resilience, and equality within our society. Despite the Public Service Commission (PSC) ruling the disciplinary charges against her NULL AND VOID, support will make understand the need for reinstatement.
This is not just about one individual—it is about ensuring that transgender professionals receive fair treatment, due process, and protection from discrimination. Dr. Nora Bugeja MD has already proven her legal and ethical standing in this matter, and we urge the reinstatement office to act without further delay.
By signing this petition, we call on the relevant authorities to immediately facilitate the reinstatement of Dr. N, recognizing her rightful place in the FY program in Mater Dei Hospital and affirming the principles of justice, fairness, and equality in Malta.
