Every year, tens of thousands of visitors come to Island Gardens to enjoy the facilities and the unequalled view of Greenwich Palace, a view that remains as it was when painted by Canaletto in 1746.

We note that the public toilet facilities were demolished many years ago and the facilities in nearby Manchester Road were passed over from Tower Hamlets Council to a Housing Association who promptly closed them.

The absence of public toilets is causing anti social behaviour with the attendant health hazards and safety concerns.

Residents and visitors have been appalled that those in need of these facilities are directed either to the public toilets provided by the Royal Borough of Greenwich or the ASDA Supermarket, which is a bus or car journey away.

We, the undersigned being users of the recreational facilities of Island Gardens are concerned that the London Borough of Tower Hamlets say that "there are no current plans to install public toilets at Island Gardens."

WE NEED THEM NOW!
