For the past two years, there has been a serious Pediculosis (headlice) issue at our school.

According to the NPA (National Pediculosis Association), "Pediculosis represents one of the most common communicable childhood diseases...and it is important to acknowledge head lice as a problem."

So, while it might not be as serious as some diseases and other issues, right now in our school it is the most prevalent one. There are measures that can be implemented to help control and prevent it:

Establish Proactive Guidelines
Educate the Community
Emphasize Prevention and Early Detection
Routine Screening and Early Detection
Parental Notification
Accurate Identification and Throrough Removal

Concerned parents are more than willing to followup at home, but how can we when we are not even notified when there is a case of Pediculosis in our child's class? Why are there not guidelines or even a written policy in the parent/student handbook?

We as parents have the right to expect our school's administration will do everything in their power to be proactive in the control and prevention of the spread of Pediculosis. Our children deserve to be protected.

We, the undersigned, call on the USD 294 School board to take action and implement proactive measures to control and prevent the spread of Pediculosis in our school.
