There are more than 4,200,000 Afar people living in the Horn of Africa. The Afar language is spoken as a mother tongue by the Afar people in Ethiopia, Djibouti and Eritrea. In Ethiopia, Afar is also recognized as an official working language of the Afar Region.
In Djibouti, Afar is recognized national language and in Eritrea, it is recognized as one of nine national languages. There is no independent media serving the marginalized people of Afar.
Afar people and friends of Afar all over the world hereby request Voice of America and the US government to start Afar language radio broadcasting Programme.
