Following on from a requst by the Councillors of the Municipal District of Newcastle West, Limerick City & County Council have agreed to the plebiscite to change the name of "The Square" Newcastle West to "Con Colbert Square". This vote is restricted to the 39 residents and ratepayers situated around "The Square" Newcastle West.
In the interest of democracy an fairness this vote/decision should be open to all residents of Newcastle West.
The voice of the community has, to date, not been considered and for this reason I am respectfully calling on the 39 eligable electorate to vote No if they are (1) opposed to the renaming or (2) to allow for a fairer more democratic process for the renaming of "The Square".
I also urge everyone else who feels strongly to have their say on the matter to please sign, support and share this petition.
We, the people of Newcastle West request that you abandon the vote planned for 19th May 2017 and that the voting priviledge afforded to the 39 residents and ratepayers of "The Square" be extended to include all residents of Newcastle West.
