Comic Books- a medium that many worldwide enjoy. However, it is not something everyone can enjoy. Pembroke Pines, Florida is one of the many places that lack comic books shops. A constitutional right is that one " shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people". If one lives somewhere that does not provide, should they really be held accountable.

Comic books and graphic novels are often dismissed to many as "not real books" or "junk". However, there are multiple benefits. Such benefits are the reason I believe a section of the Broward County Library located in Pembroke Pines should be replaced with an additional comic book shop or library, where readers can be engaged in what they enjoy. Now at first, the idea may seem, to say the least, a little out there, though when you see the positives, your opinion will begin to sway. One might argue, that some libraries already provide graphic novels. Though, they are in very small amounts and are extremely outdated. Such forms of medium provide various benefits including motivating reluctant readers, inference, memory, sequencing, understanding succinct language, and reading comprehension. Further, it allows children to slow down and read the books they enjoy, while bringing art back into the classroom. If your opinion hasn’t been swayed already both comic book and graphic novel are for people of all ages and backgrounds. Also, children with autism can learn a lot about identifying emotions through the images in a graphic novel. Additionally, for children with dyslexia, while it might be very frustrating for them to finish a page of a traditional book, they often feel a sense of accomplishment when they complete a page in a comic book. Accomplishment is important. It's a huge self-esteem booster and leads to kids naturally wanting to read more. Plus, kids look up to their parents and want to share and discuss those favorite comics or moments or scenes with you. Such "junk" offers a plethora of learning benefits - critical thinking, sequencing, imagination, storytelling, and creativity. So, I ask you to promptly add a section to the Pembroke Pines library especially for comics and graphic novels.
