Calpine Corp. is seeking a power purchase agreement with PG&E so that they may build the East Altamont Energy Center, directly adjacent to the community of Mountain House, CA.

The permit process was completed in 2002, before any residents of MH could participate in the public processes required by law. The power plant will be the 2nd largest in all of CA, and will be less than a mile from our schools, parks, and residences.

The environmental impact report from 2002 paints a stark picture of the damage this plant will cause to our community in air quality from toxic emissions, noise pollution, visual blight, and danger of industrial accidents. The risks to our community's well-being are severe.

The undersigned residents of Mountain House, CA, and other interested parties would like to express our utmost opposition to any power purchase agreements with Calpine Corp. for the proposed East Altamont Energy Center.

A power plant of this capacity is unprecedented in California in its close proximity to our children's schools, our children's parks, and our residences.

We believe that the siting and approval process conducted in 2002 is no longer valid due to significant and permanent changes in the immediately adjacent environment, and because those of us who will be most directly affected did not have a chance to participate in the public process.

We intend to vigorously oppose the construction of this plant by all legal means.
