Caerphilly Council is currently consulting on its draft Local Development Plan. The Plan proposes to significantly increase the amount of Greenfield land available for housing development in the Caerphilly area.

The Local Development Plan (LDP) Manual (Welsh Government 2006) recommends that local planning authorities engage with developers and landowners at the evidence gathering stage of the LDP process to obtain information about potential development sites that may be included in the plan. These potential sites are referred to as 'candidate sites'.

One of these potential sites is the land at Gwern Y Domen Farm, Rudry. Many of the local riders in the Rudry and Caerphilly refer to this land as “Greenhaf’s” or “Greenhaf’s Fields”. These fields are very commonly used by local riders and are accessed via a lane opposite Three Counties Agriculture & Branch Kennels on Rudry Road. Riders have access over open fields all the way over to Van mansion or vice versa.

We as a local riding club feel that it is important to let our members know of this site having been earmarked for potential development by Caerphilly Borough Council and would encourage members to sign the following petition to object to this development plan proposals on greenfield land and the inclusion of this site in the plan.

We believe that this site is in open countryside , beyond the settlement boundary. The inclusion of this site will lead to the extension of development in the greenfields towards Rudry village and will adversely affect the beautiful landscape . nature conservation and safe opportunities for outdoor recreation.

I had written this petition with horse riders in mind, but it is open to ALL to sign. Please do so as this proposal affects EVERYONE in the local area.
