Hedgehogs have lovely names. Which probably saves them from receiving the same treatment as rats. If hedgehogs had their name changed then perhaps rabbits should be called Long Eared Rats, hares - Extra Long Eared Rats, Mice - Very Small Rats with Big Ears, Squirrels - Cute Tree Rats, Voles - extremely small quivery rats etc etc.
This would all get very silly and confusing.
