Thank you to everyone who signed and supported the StopHS2 petition in North Westminster. The online version generated few responses but overall we presented over 1400 signatures to Westminster Council who have taken note of North Westminster's issues with the development plans for HS2. We continue to liaise with Wesminster Council on HS2.
HS2 costing upwards of £32bn is the largest engineering project this country has ever seen. Its stated economic and environmental benefits have been already discredited by leading consultants and academics. The government's public consultation process is flawed and inadequate.
In North Westminster and Brent HS2 proposals include boring 3 high speed rail tunnels underneath homes and businesses that include Grade II listed buildings, Queens Park Conservation Area and Grade II Kensal Green Cemetery. In addition to a 2-3 storey ventilation shaft in the car park site next to Queens Park station.
We oppose the lack of detailed information provided to residents and businesses in this area, exclusion from compensation scheme for those above tunnels, and the significant adverse impacts likely during construction and operation (not yet quantified) of an arbitrary route that threatens to blight our local community.
We, the undersigned residents and business owners living in Westminster and Brent, are opposed in principle to the Government's HS2 High Speed Rail project and urge our local Councils and the Greater London Authority to oppose plans for HS2.
