Professional fisherman catch a lot of unwanted juvenile fish and other sea creatures as a so called by-catch, tot there targeted species.
This unwanted by-catch is going back overboard and a lot of these by-catch can grow until they are commercially interesting. The ones who do not survive are feed to other sea-life and sea-birds.
Enforcing these by-catch to be brought ashore and been processed to fish meal, will put an enormous pressure on the fish stocks. Only to benefit the fish farmers, who will be assured of fish meal at all times. Selling there product as nature friendly, which is just the opposite of what will really happen.
We undersigned petitioners,
Do not agree with the planned enforcement of landing of by-catches of juvenile fish or any other sea creatures.
This law is planned to be in force from the First of January 2019. These landings will make the fish-stocks unsustainable. These by-catches will be processed to fish-meal, to feed farmed fish species.
Which means that millions of tons of wild fish will be destroyed just to feed these farmed fish. Which in turn will be promoted as nature friendly.
