There are 19 states in the U.S. that do not require a front license plate. Virginia is one of the states in the U.S. that requires a front license plates on all vehicles registered in the state.
Removal of the front license plates does not hinder law enforcement to be able to properly identify a vehicles plate number, because officers use the rear plates for identification. Therefore eliminating the purpose of the front plate all together.
We, the undersigned call on the Virginia General Assembly, to eliminate the requirement for front license plates on all passenger vehicles registered in the state of Virginia.
There are plenty of other states that allow a vehicle to be driven without a front license plate. The purpose would help cut government costs on the production of extra license plates statewide, it would save the residents of the state money, not only on the plates but also on the license plates renewable registration stickers (these are located on the plates, and have to be renewed either yearly or every 2 years).
Lastly, a lot of cars have a bumper that does not accommodate front plates, due to design aesthetics.
