Telstra submitted a proposal to the Shire of Roebourne to install a 35m phone tower in the centre of Dampier at their telephone exchange.
After opposition from community members because of the proposed location of the tower, the Shire rejected the proposal and Telstra submitted an alternative 25m tower in the same location.
Community members again lobbied the Shire to reject this proposal and request Telstra to consider other sites on the periphery of town. The Shire will make their decision on the 19th of November 2012 at the Shire Council Meeting.
We, the undersigned, call on Telstra to cease their plans to erect a phone tower, of any height, at their exchange site in the centre of Dampier and actively engage with the Dampier community to agree to an alternative site on the outskirts of the town.
