The Arizona State Land Department (ASLD) submitted an application to Pinal County requesting the elimination of the one-mile buffer zone required between existing residential homes and new construction of high-intensity commercial developments under the MP-CMP zoning classification which includes sporting, recreational, entertainment, amusement, cultural, industrial and transportation facilities.

THIS CHANGE AFFECTS ALL RESIDENTS OF PINAL COUNTY.

The application has already been reviewed in a hearing of the Pinal County P&Z (Planning and Zoning) Commission on July 15, 2021, during which Chairman Riggins stated, “I can see how that would be very good for the person who wanted it. I just don’t see how it’s real good for everybody else.” Extensive discussion followed.

Nevertheless, a compromise was reached, and the P&Z Commission recommended to the Board of Supervisors that the existing required buffer zone be reduced from one mile to 660 feet. This is a reduction of 87.5%.

THE FINAL VOTE BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IS SCHEDULED FOR 8/25/2021.

A public hearing will be held by the Pinal County Board of Supervisors at 9:30 A.M. on August 25, 2021 in the Pinal County Historic Courthouse, Board of Supervisors Chambers, 185 N. Pinal St., Florence, Arizona.
