Permit has been applied for by Free Flow Power to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, permit P-13407 for possible future construction of Hydro Power Plants on Muskingum River.
This river basin is home of many species of mussels, fish, raptors, some of which is federally endangered and/or threatened, and many other species of plants, animals, fish and wildlife.
Construction of this Hydro Power Plant will destroy, disrupt, alter, damage, kill, and possibly critically change the habitat of some of these species. The Dam will have a large percentage of it removed, the dam is a large part of this historical hand operated lock and dam system. There will be impact of residential and/or agricultural areas and personal property. The Dam and park area is a large recreational are for fishing, kayaking, boating, swimming, wading, bird watching and is a very scenic area.
Possible but likely damage to public road ways with large construction equipment and access onto the Island where there is public park, ballfields, public pool, picnic shelters, playground, agricultural area, permanent residential homes, summer seasonal cottages, fishing and a large portion of this recreational area.
We are not in any way against green energy. What we are against is destruction of habitat, recreational areas, agricultural and residential, fishing and areas for sporting activities for the greed and profit of a major corporation using destruction of such areas.
I cannot fathom that the FEDERAL ENERGY REGULATORY COMMISSION would allow such destruction and disarray of such a fragile area.
We the undersigned call to the FEDERAL ENERGY REGULATORY COMMISSION to halt the permit issuance of P-13407 to free flow power and/or any company to construct any type of construction that would alter any of the waterway, destruction of habitat and/or historical value of the dam and recreational area.
