During a Sunday night football game on NBC, sports commentator Bob Costas innapropriately used the platform of the NFL on NBC to air his personal views on gun control, relating to the recent muder suicide of a Kansas city Chiefs player and his girlfriend. His statement "If Jovan Belcher didn't possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today".
This comment is offensive to law abiding gun owners, to the families of those he referred to, as well as offensive to the NFL audience, who just wanted to enjoy a football game, and not hear a soapbox speach. Mr. Costas is paid very well to commentate on sports, we demand that he stay within the scope of his job.
We the undersigned call for the NFL, and or NBC, to take action in reprimanding Mr. Costas for his remarks. NFL players are frequently fined tens of thousands of dollars for much less flagrant violations.
He should be fined, if not fired, and the people responsible for the signatures on this petition would appreciate a public, televised apology for the misuse of his airtime to deceptively bring his personal political opinions into our homes.
