Update: THIS PETITION HAS BEEN PRESENTED TO TRANSPORT FOR LONDON AND IS NOW CLOSED.
A NEW PETITION THAT COVERS BOTH BUSES AND TRAINS HAS BEEN LAUNCHED AND CAN BE FOUND AT:
This is a petition designed to combat the growing use of mobile phones and mp3 players to play music out loud by passengers on London Buses.
We contacted the company with regards to this issue and received this reponse:
"If the use of a mobile phone or personal stereo does cause annoyance to other passengers or is distracting the driver's attention, staff can request that the music is reduced. It is very difficult to enforce a complete ban on people listening to music on buses. However, we have recently made the decision to put posters up at bus stops, asking people to keep their music down."
We believe that London Buses need to do more than display posters at bus stops. Easily noticeable posters and warning signs on the buses themselves would be far more useful and would also help support those passengers who choose to confront those who show a lack of respect whilst using public transport.
We feel it is very important to show London Buses and TfL the exact scale of this issue. Please add your experiences, thoughts and suggestions in the comment field when signing the petiton so that we can pass them on.
It is also very useful if you include your usual bus route(s) as it provides an idea of just how widespread the problem is.
We believe that current advertising/notices on buses are not sufficient and would like to see more done by the company to help support passengers rights.
