Under the guise of giving local residents access to the Central Experimental Farm a petition was circulated amongst local white home owning residents to have a Traffic Light placed at the Intersection of Fisher Avenue and Tunis Avenue. Those who circulated the petition did not include the thousands of people who live outside of their immediate 10 door radius, because those people live in apartments and are considered an unwanted and unwelcome element in this neighbourhood. The creator of this petition was told she was not welcome at Community association meetings because she is a tenant and "everyone knows tenants are the trouble makers that cause all the problems."
The fact that a bus route (#14) which cuts through this neighbourhood is now detained for lengthy periods of time because of the use of the traffic light doesn't seem to bother anyone at Ottawa City Hall. The fact is that single occupancy cars that travel up and down Fisher Avenue (which are driven by selfish and inconsiderate drivers who do not care to follow the traffic laws) often block the #14 buses from accessing Fisher Ave. to head North.
By moving the Traffic light one block north it would serve a local bus route, which everyone is entitled to use, and allow pedestrian access to the farm and give those pedestrians the same amount of safety that is given to those who use Fisher Avenue to catch the #86 bus route (there are no sidewalks down most of Fisher and leaping onto a #86 is hazardous for even the strongest, healthy, adults).
People who use buses should be given more consideration.
That fact that the city councillor catered to the wealthy, white's only population should not be missed by anyone living in an apartment, or using a bus!

Are you tired of Ottawa City Hall flip/flopping on the way they plan services for buses VS cars?
I'm tired of City Hall decisions contradicting what they are saying.
Sign the petition to have City Hall MOVE the TRAFFIC LIGHT FROM the corner of Fisher Ave/Tunis Ave TO the corner of Fisher Ave/Crerar Ave. It was placed at Fisher/Tunis to help car drivers to get to their houses quicker and is holding up the Bus Route #14 when it tries to turn from Crerar onto Fisher, especially during rush hours.
All too often single person occupied vehicles block the bus from turning onto Fisher Ave from Crerar Ave and continuing on it's route on Carling Ave, often adding three or more minutes (per trip) to already overused, overcrowded and often delayed route. The selfishness of the home owners community association and the city councillor for this ward did not take into consideration the end line bus users. They don't care that the vast majority of the people using the buses are hard working people struggling to make ends meet, immigrants learning their way through a new way of life, the disabled and elderly who struggle everyday with all of the barriers that are already put in front of them, or single moms struggling to get kids to day care before they go to work.
The home owners don't care as long as they can drive home and by-pass all the traffic.
