Many persons have been robbed, attacked of even killed due to unsafe dark streets, no easy way of identifying attacker’s or having an advantage of protecting oneself. Many streets in the communities are neat to unscrupulous activities and culprits.
The streets of inner city Jamaica are becoming more unsafe. Dark corners, trenches and lanes are becoming a nest or area for criminal activities. The elderly, adults and children, especially women and teens have been targets and victims of these activities due to ride by, grab-and-run, stick up at gun point or teamed robbery. The lack of adequate street lightings assists in making the streets unsafe. As much as Jamaicans tend to have a “no informer” mentality, victims who are willing to speak out against these criminals would have a better chance in identifying or giving a description of their robbers if they had a better view of them.

We are offering a petition to our local representatives and public service agency of Jamaica to add to the safety of our citizens by having energy saving street lights at lonely roads and dark corners to better assist in safe travelling at nights. We also request that the solar panels be placed at the top of the street lights to prevent mischievous and unscrupulous people from having access to remove or destroy them. We would like the government of Jamaica to establish this request to better help in protecting the lives of members of our communities.
