Minimize the Impact of Intersection Construction - State Highway 24 and Morning Sun Drive - on businesses

As published in the May 9, 2007 edition of the Pike's Peak Courier View, upgrade construction of the intersection of State Highway 24 and Morning Sun Drive will begin on May 21, 2007.

This construction will undoubtedly affect traffic and the businesses near the construction. David Buttery, the City Manager is quoted as saying, "We will try to keep disruptions to a minimum, but there will be road and lane closures," at the last City Council meeting. If Morning Sun Drive is inaccessible for more than a day or two, it would harm businesses in the immediate area.

Not only would business owners suffer after a lackluster 1st quarter, but so would employees. Food servers, real estate agents, carpet salesmen, office staff, professionals, doctors, dentists and others would also have their income affected negatively by such a closure.

This petition is simply asking the City of Woodland Park for two things:

First, to draft letters to Colorado Structures (Wal-Mart's Contractor), Wal-Mart Public Relations, and The Colorado Department of Transportation demanding that Morning Sun Drive not be closed for any more than two days during the projected 45 day period of construction.

Second, to do everything in their power to ensure the impact will be minimized for businesses and residents in Morning Sun on an ongoing basis.
