The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Hernando is a non-profit 501c3 affiliate of NAMI national which is the largest grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness.

The national and the local organizations are made up of families, professionals working in behavioral health and persons living with a mental health diagnosis. NAMI Hernando provides free resources that focus on three cornerstones of activity that offer hope, reform and health: support, education and advocacy.

Nationally:

1 in 4 people will be affected by mental illness in their lives.

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in adults and the 3rd leading cause of death in adolescents.

Statewide:

Florida has 666,000 adults and 181,000 children diagnosed with mental
illness.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for people between the ages of 25—34.

State of Florida Mental Health Funding compared to population growth (per CFBHN report):

Florida population increased 16% since 2000.
DCF funding per capita adjusted for inflation: 2000 $24.25 & 2013 $18.06. It would take an investment of $129,235,167 to restore current funding to the same level in 2000.

County:

Hernando County has the 3rd highest rate of mental illness in Florida, 45% more cases than average.

In 2014, more than 900 individuals living in Hernando County were hospitalized involuntarily by Baker Act.

NAMI Hernando wishes to expand their approach and work to create a center crafted after the Clubhouse Model like the Vincent House in Pinellas County that will go a step further to teach, train, and employ persons living with mental illness. Through this model, trained staff members will work alongside the consumers to reintegrate into the workforce, learn life and entry level job skills, obtain employment, continue their education, and most of all, increase their self-worth by becoming productive members of the community.

State Senator Wilton Simpson has proposed $250,000 in the FY2015 budget to build this center in Hernando County. We are asking for you to sign the petition below to show your support for the clubhouse model center for Hernando County and individuals living with mental illness.

Persons with mental illness need work too!

With the proper training and support, everyone deserves a chance to earn a living and be productive. With the help and support of trained professionals, we can bring this opportunity to those persons living with mental illness by bringing a clubhouse model center to Hernando County.

With your support, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
