Two children were killed and one was severely injured on Sunday July, 14 2013 on Sylvan Lake.
The three children were being towed on the back of their family's boat when another boater did not see the tube and ran over the tube that the three children were on. There was no alcohol involved, the driver of the boat simply did not see the children.
We, the undersigned, call on the legislation of the state of Michigan to enforce a law requiring any boat towing a person, or persons to have a brightly colored red flag in the upright position attached to their boat to inform other boaters on the water that the boat has a person, or persons being towed off the back.
This will lead to boaters taking more caution and being more aware to stay at a further distance away from these boats that obtain these red flags preventing injury and death.
