There is currently no law on dog desexing, which has resulted in many unsterilised dogs producing unexpected and unnecessary litters of puppies. This extensive amount of breeding is resulting in rescues and pounds filling up with abandoned and surrendered dogs. Puppies bred in people's backyard are often given away for free, which can lead to the following
1. An unsuitable home due to lack of dog knowledge which results in dog being abandoned or surrendered
2. An abusive/unkind home
3. A financially unstable home that eventually can no longer afford to dog and gives it up
4. A home who jumped in without thinking and then realises they can't make the full commitment
5. free backyard puppies reduce the chance of our shelter dogs being adopted.

Mandatory desexing will reduce breeding, promote adoption from shelters and help dogs to be healthier all round.

Help us to get the Western Australian Government take control of puppy farming, by following Victoria's lead and employing Oscar's Law, which puts restrictions of dog breeders to ensure the ethical treatment of their dogs and bans the sale of puppies in pet shops. Furthermore introduce mandatory Desexing of dogs to put a stop to unexpected litters as well as backyard breeding. Desexing also helps improve the health of dogs by reducing cancer risks and limiting their desire to wander from home and risk getting injured or lost.
