- Namibian Parliament
One in ten Sub-Saharan girls are forced to skip school everyday due to the known fact they cannot afford sanitary pads - specifically menstrual pads.
Denying the girl child access to sanitary pads is equivalent to denying them to their basic right to free education.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Social Welfare has on many occasions told the public that there are already programmes in place were sanitary pads are provided to school girls, but they have failed to specify where such such programmes are in place.
We cannot be relying only on occasional donations by generous individuals and various organisations because we need permanent solutions in place
This matter is cannot be debatable any further and should be addressed with urgency.
We call on the Namibian Parliament to provide free access to sanitary pads for all school going girls country-wide in order to promote girl empowerment.
We the undersigned, call in the Namibian Parliament to provide free access to sanitary pads for all school going girls country-wide in order to fulfil the basic right to education for all girls.
One in ten school girls are forced to skip school everyday due to a lack of sanitary products as a result of poverty in most cases.
This is and should be treated as a matter of urgency.
The Make Sanitary Pads Free For All School Girls petition to Namibian Parliament was written by Thomas Iiyambo and is in the category Gender Rights and Issues at GoPetition.
