There are approximately 4, 200 colleges in America. Only 811 of these are tobacco-free.
The child you are about to send to college, the person you may be right now, the friend you are leaving behind may not be a smoker, but they will feel the effects of secondhand smoke later on in life if not immediately after their exposure to cigarette smoke.
By changing all colleges in America to tobacco-free, we are creating a healthier environment for everyone.
Each year, an estimated 443,000 people die prematurely from smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke, and another 8.6 million live with a serious illness caused by smoking.
If this is the case, why would a college campus want to give their students an opportunity to become one of the 8.6 million effected by cigarette smoke.
By becoming a tobacco-free campus, colleges are helping students make healthier choices and providing a healthy environment for those that already do make healthy choices.
I need your help in getting the government to pass legislation on this issue or even raise awareness about it. Doing so will guarantee everyone a healthier and happier lifestyle.
