Currently the age of consent in California is 18 with no gray areas. So if 2 17 year olds have sex they will get arrested.
In my state Texas the age of consent is 17 with a 3 year gray area. Other states the age of consent is 16 with a 3 or 4 year gray area.
California is supposed to be the land of the sexually tolerant, yet even though they're the most liberal state they're the least tolerant of underage sex.
California is also where Hollywood, the movie capital of the world is & where most movies are made. They all portray the age of consent as 18 with no gray areas even though most of their audiences live in states where 17 & 16 year olds can legally consent to sex.
I've seen in different TV shows where a man would hit on a girl only to find out shes 16 which deterred him, but in most other states & countries their relationship would be legal.
It's time to make California the land it was meant to be. sign this to have their age of consent lowered &/or create gray areas in their age of consent laws.
Sign this if you think that 17 &/or 16 year olds should be able to consent to sex like they can in many other states.
Also sign if you think there should be close in age exceptions in these laws.
